King Yayati's Borrowed Youth
1 min read · Scripture story
A king takes his son's youth to keep chasing pleasure, and after a thousand years discovers desire is never full.
Cursed with old age, King Yayati begged one of his sons to exchange youth with him. His son Puru agreed. For a thousand years Yayati enjoyed every pleasure the world could give. At the end he said to his son: 'Desire is never satisfied by enjoyment; as fire fed with butter, it only grows.' He returned Puru's youth and walked into the forest, at last free. The lesson
Desire is not extinguished by feeding it. Only understanding cools the fire.
