Ajamila and the Name of God
1 min read · Scripture story
A fallen man calls out his son's name — Narayana — at death, and is liberated from lifetimes of accumulated karma.
Ajamila had once been a righteous man who fell into vice. At the hour of his death, terrified, he called out to his youngest son, whose name happened to be Narayana — one of the names of the Divine. The messengers of Yama, come to drag his soul away for judgment, were stopped by the messengers of Vishnu, who declared: the name was uttered, and the name is enough. Ajamila was given more time. He used it well. The lesson
Karma is real, but grace can reach further than karma. What we practice becomes what we call on when it matters.
